The hands on course is instructed by Craig Toth (President of Natural Elements Honey and long term executive member of the "Edmonton and District Beekeeping Association) on a weekly basis (First week of June to the 2nd week of September) in the Sturgeon County area.
The cost of the course is $100/person.
Having a mentor is a pre-requisite for most cities when you are applying for a licence to keep bees. One of the Pre-requisites to take this couse is you have to have taken a course prior to coming out to the beeyard (Doesn't have to be a Natural elements beekeeping course). We will be re-inforcing all the theory and working our way into more advanced topics throughout the season. If you have taken one of the "Natural Elements Honey Beekeeping courses", this is already included so you won't have to sign up for this course.
If you are new or have been keeping bees for awhile and you want the most up to date techiniques, please attend. This course applies to both Urban and commercial beekeeping. Topics include: Bee regulations and bee guidelines in Edmonton and surroundings, equipment and tools, seasonal management, honey harvesting and processing, Winter preperation, disease identification and treatment options and much more. New and improved course content. Beekeeping changes and is always evolving.
Be prepared to learn lots, have fun and get a bit dirty. We normally average 64+ mentoring hours throughout the season. We recommend only 1 day per week due to the amount of students that we train. All is weather dependant. If you have any questions contact Craig at craig@naturalelementshoney.ca (780-460-7773)
Look forward to working with you on your beekeeping journey. Criag Toth (President of Natural Elements Honey)
