Our beginner beekeeping course is unique in that we have the 1 day theory portion and then there is the hands-on  portion which follows (optional mentoring). Everything that you will need to start your new hobby.

The course runs from  8:30am to 2:30-3pm (Depends on Student size and questions at the end of the course). The cost of the course is $140/person attending. We will be holding it at the Pirates Rugby club. If there are restrictions due to COVID we will be using the Zoom platform. We will send all the refrence material before the course starts. A lot of the material which is covered in the course is proprietary material that you won't find in other manuals. We did multiple courses on the Zoom Platform last year and it worked good. As a side note we have been teaching the course for the past 6 years. This is a great course for the just starting out beekeeper or the beekeeper that wants a refresher.

The course is instructed by Craig Toth and Malcolm Connell, 2 experienced beekeepers with a combined experience of over 38 years in both Urban and commercial beekeeping.

Topics include: Bee regulations and bee guidelines in Edmonton and surroundings, equipment and tools, seasonal management, honey harvesting and processing, disease identification and treatment options and much more. Certificates to allow for bees to be kept in the City of Edmonton, City of St Albert...Will be provided.

Graduates of the course can attend the free optional mentoring sessions which there is theory and the hands on portion of the course on most weeks starting Mid April to the second week in September.
We will be overviewing everything we learned on the 1 day course plus we will be introducing many intermediate and advanced topics as we work throughout the season. Be prepared to learn lots, have fun and get a bit dirty. We normally average 64+ mentoring hours on 3 separate days each week. We recommend only 1 day per week due to the amount of students that we train. All is weather dependant.

By signing up for the beginers beekeeping course you will automatically be registered. To attending the mentoring sessions you have to take the above beekeepers course and then you can  contact Malcolm at  connellmjm@hotmail.com or Craig at craig@naturalelementshoney.ca (780-460-7773) to register for the weekly mentoring sessions.

Did you need to order a Nucleus hive? If you need 1 or more be sure to visit the store section and place your order for supplies are limited.

Craig Toth

Craig Toth has been actively involved in both Urban and rural beekeeping for the past 17+ years. President of Natural Elements honey he started out with a few hives and this year he will be working with 40+ hives. Craig is passionate about teaching of honey bees for he has been running mentoring classes multiple times during the week from April to September for the past 12+. The formal Beginner Beekeeping courses usually take a full day. We are usually teaching at the McEwan University but we do other locations upon request. From there we have the basic knowledge to start to work with the bees. Theory is great but tying it with the practical knowledge of working with the bees is very important. That is where we have weekly mentoring sessions in the beeyards in Sturgeon County. This is where we can expand your knowledge to a much higher level. Do we charge extra for this? No. You just have to take the Formal Begineers beekeeping course and you can attend.  Craig also holds the position of President through the Edmonton and District Beekeepers association for many years. Hope to see you in one of our courses or in the bee yard.

Bees as our friends

We love beekeeping and our bees too!

All of our bee yards we specifically pick out the location with the bees in mind. Just like buying a house it is location, location, location. Picking locations where there is natural forage for the bees and planting extra plants for the bees to forage on is what we like to do.
